Office of Sustainability

Learning from Milwaukee's Office of Sustainability about the rich hertiage of water and it's role in its industry and history.  A book recommended was "Cannibalism with a Fork",  which philisophically explores if Capatilism and Environmentalism can co-exist.  We are meeting in City Hall which is now LEED certified,  and Growing Power picks up every offices compost.  Milwaukee has a Green Team, which is doing a sustainablilty plan focusing on neighborhood revitalization.

They are also working on developing a sustainability fund to fund projects for the long term.  The office also facilitates a sustainable manufacturing program encouraging sustainability amongst businesses.  A focus on manufacturing is where you get the most bang for your buck.

Milwaukee has three Urban Ecology Centers throughout the city connecting people to nature.

Milwaukee has a Home Gr/own program woking on utilizing vacant land, encouraging home steading and creating food assets.  Soil testing is protocol and standards for raised beds are encouraged.   The city produces it's own compost for its projects.

Milwaukee is Ameica's fresh coast capital.
